Minnesota Rebate Checks
The Minnesota Legislature has decided to send rebate checks to qualifying taxpayers. The details are still being worked out, but here’s what we know as of May 24, 2023. The rebate checks will be based upon the 2021 Tax Year. Those who filed as a single taxpayer and had an adjusted gross income (AGI) of less than $75,000 will receive $260. Married couples filing jointly in 2021 with an adjusted gross income of less than $150,000 will receive $520. Another $260 per dependent, up to three dependents, will be added to those figures. You do not need to apply for the rebate checks, the money will be sent this fall. There is no phase out for this Rebate, which means if your AGI is $1 higher than the limits, you do not qualify.
To be eligible, you must have been a part year or full year resident for the tax year of 2021, filed a Minnesota Individual Income Tax Return or a Homestead Credit Refund before December 31, 2022 and meet the AGI requirements.
